Chinese Continue Their Gambling Bust 11 May 2006 The Chinese government had decided several months ago that it was going to eradicate illegal gambling in its midst. This was a very ambitious aspiration on behalf of the Chinese, but it looks like they are taking this act very seriously. It has been reported that in 2006 alone, over 350 illegal gambling related cases have been made and that the police are continuing with their raids of illegal gambling locations all the time. The police further expanded to explain that over 700 prosecutions have been made in gambling related cases this year. The reason for the increased raids on illegal gambling was because online pornography and gambling, and the spread of computer viruses, hackers and other cyber-related crime had created an unhealthy internet environment. The police said that they wanted to regulate and control the internet as a use of information and entertainment and not a venue for crime. The police said that they plan on continuing the raid of illegal gambling operators and that other departments in the law enforcement agencies will be pooling their resources in order to increase knowledge and effectiveness of this anti-gambling raid. The police stressed that their ultimate intention was to produce a healthy and crime-free internet for all the citizens. | |||||||||||||||
